Praying for Men Today

Daniel VillarrealBlog

Everyday we see countless tragedies on the news committed my men….men, who have never been taught HOW to be men. It’s a sad reality what the lack of fathers in our country has produced. How it continues to produce males that don’t know how to be men. When I say lack of fathers, that also refers to men who have children, but are still living like boys. From violence, to self absorption, to confusion and perpetual adolescence, men are all around us in body, but so many are not walking in their purpose, function or calling. Might I add, that this has little to do with the hobbies a man might have, how “childlike” he is in his persona or attitude, or how much fun he likes to have in life, but rather how “childish” he is in his endeavors, passions and pursuits. How immature he is in his impulses or how he reacts when life does not go his way. How he embraces his own strengths and weaknesses and maximizes them for a greater purpose. How he rebounds from setbacks and challenges. How he establishes himself as a consistent influence in his sphere of influence for which he is ultimately accountable. Whether he sees himself as a constant victim or a potential victor. Most importantly, whether or not he reaches out for help from men, not other childish boys, when he hits walls in life.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:11, “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.” I resolved a long time ago to remain childlike in my joy, pursuits and passions. No one will ever rob my joy, my peace or my passion because it rests in who Christ is, not in who I am. However, I also resolved a long time ago that I wanted God’s supernatural work to remove and root out every childish thing that does not reflect His Son. That I would become a man that fulfills not just a role in life, but the calling on my life. I’ve never been a perfect man, but I know that everyday I am being perfected. I’m praying for men today…that they would become the men they’ve been created to be. That they would respond to their sense of purpose and put away the childish ways… – Daniel V.
